Sightseeing tour

During the tour, visitors are introduced to all Museum’s exhibitions, which present the loss of independence in the mid-20th century, repressions carried out by the Soviet government, and the people’s struggle to regain their independence. A tour of the former KGB internal prison, the suffering of the people imprisoned there and their struggle not to lose their human dignity, faith and hope.

Thematic tours
  • Former KGB internal prison
    This is a tour of the KGB internal prison, the life and living conditions of the people imprisoned there, the suffering they endured and the endless efforts they made not to be crushed by the abominable reality. The tour ends in the room where over a thousand prisoners were executed.
  • Lithuanian population in forced labour camps and exile
    This is a tour of the repressions carried out by the Soviet occupation power and penal system. It reveals the harsh living and working conditions of political prisoners and deportees. The tour describes their efforts to preserve their customs, language, and historical consciousness.
  • Partisan War in Lithuania
    The tour tells the story of the nine-year-long organised partisan war for the restoration of an independent state. It introduces the territorial structure and military organisation of the partisan formations, the daily activities and everyday life of freedom fighters, the unequal struggle, and the inevitable casualties.
  • Unarmed Resistance in 1954-1991
    This is a tour of a voluntary national resistance, the directions of the resistance movement that emerged in 1960’s and 1970’s and the underground organisations that represented them. The national revival movement, known as the Singing Revolution, is also presented.
