In Soviet Lithuania, Easter – the most important Christian holiday – was celebrated in secret, and often around a table with many empty seats. With longing, family members who were left in occupied Lithuania paid homage to their brothers and sisters, fathers and mothers, aunts and uncles, and husbands and wives who had been deported and put in hard labour camps. The only form of communication these people had was letters. The Easter cards and letters that were sent were filled with longing words of hope and wishes of renewal, determination and strength.

The virtual exhibition features Easter cards, photographs, letters, drawings and diary excerpts of exiles and political prisoners.
