The revival rallies that began in the late 1980s drew crowds of thousands. Having forgotten the fear that had plagued them for so many years, the people of Lithuania lived in the hope of freedom and independence. However, not everyone went to the rallies with feelings of elation. Participants of unauthorised rallies and gatherings were followed by the watchful eye of the KGB. Rather than driving away the demonstrators, KGB employees wrote down the speeches and what was written on the posters people were holding. They recorded the number of participants and took pictures so that they could identify them later. Over time, the KGB amassed a large collection of photographs. The virtual exhibition showcases moments from Sąjūdis events as recorded by KGB employees.
