The 2011 traveling exhibition is dedicated to the Year of the Defence of Freedom and Great Losses and the European Men’s Basketball Championship held in Lithuania. The exhibition posters show how Lithuanian basketball teams were formed in the Soviet labour camps and places of exile in Komi, Mordovia, Kazakhstan, Omsk, Irkutsk, and other areas of the region during the 1950’s. Where every day meant a desperate struggle for survival, where everyone had to fend for themselves, it was necessary to find something that would unite and inspire pride. For Lithuanians, that unifying factor was basketball.
